Treasured By God Ministries

Providing community outreach and food distribution to the residents of Marshall County Iowa

About Our Mission

Treasured By God Ministries and The Treasure Chest Food Pantry are a multi-step community outreach for residents in Marshall County Iowa and surrounding communities through food distribution; clothing, furniture and home good needs, and community event hosting, that started in 2021 and was relaunched in 2025 from the loving and generous heart of Kimberly and Joel Gummert and continues today to honor Kim after her passing; through a ministry carried on by a multi-generational family effort to show Gods' love in a practical way.

My wife Kim came home one day and presented me with an idea that she had been approached with, taking over the food pantry and furniture and clothing ministry in Gilman, IA. At first, I was hesitant of the idea, I was approaching 73 yrs of age. But I could see the glow in her eyes and the excitement in her voice. So of course, I said, whatever you want to do is fine with me. That was all she needed to hear, and Kim was off and running. At first it didn't look like a good idea. But each time we were open, more and more people came to get fed. We went from 11 people the first time to 270 people the 8th week we were open. Unfortunately, Kim passed away in April and didn't get to see how her vision had exploded to what we are doing here today. My son Kevin, daughter Lauren and her husband Lance and I, Joel Gummert have dedicated our lives to continuing Kim's dream of serving the people of our community and providing what assistance we can offer. God has blessed us through this ministry, and we will keep her dream ALIVE.
